What is motion analysis?

We use depth-sensing cameras to capture how your body moves in three dimensions. This gives us objective, quantified data on joint angles, movement symmetry, range of motion, and functional performance. It turns "my knee feels better" into "your knee flexion improved 18 degrees and your single-leg squat asymmetry dropped from 22% to 8%."

Why it matters

Most of musculoskeletal medicine relies on subjective assessment. Motion analysis gives us numbers. If your shoulder external rotation was 38 degrees last month and it's 56 degrees today, that's real, measurable improvement. If your gait is still asymmetric despite feeling better, we know we're not done.

What to wear

Athletic clothing. Shorts and a fitted top so the cameras can track your joint positions. Bring the shoes you use for your sport or daily activity.

During the assessment

I'll walk you through a series of movements based on your condition and goals: walking and running gait, squats, single-leg tasks, reaching, sport-specific movements. The cameras capture data without any sensors attached to your body. You just move naturally. 15 to 30 minutes.

Getting your results

I review the data with you during the same visit. We identify specific asymmetries or limitations and build them into your treatment plan. Baseline data is stored for comparison over time.

Who benefits most?

Patients recovering from injury or surgery. Athletes identifying movement inefficiencies. Chronic pain patients where we need functional tracking beyond pain scores. Workers' comp or disability cases needing objective documentation.

Is this covered by insurance?

Motion analysis is bundled into your evaluation and management visit. No separate charge. I use it because it makes my clinical decision-making better, not as an add-on billing item.
