Before your appointment

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Athletic wear is ideal. I'll need to access your back, neck, and limbs during the exam and treatment. No special preparation required. Eat normally, stay hydrated, take your usual medications.

What happens during the visit

Conversation first. We start by talking about what brought you in, what makes it better or worse, how it's affecting your daily life, and what your goals are.

Structural exam. I assess posture, gait, and active range of motion, then palpate your spine, pelvis, ribs, and extremities looking for restricted motion, tissue texture changes, and tenderness.

Treatment. Based on findings, I use a combination of OMM techniques:

Soft tissue and myofascial release. Sustained pressure on restricted fascia and muscles to restore mobility.

Muscle energy technique. You actively contract muscles against my resistance in specific positions to reset neuromuscular tone and restore joint motion.

Counterstrain. I position your body at the point of maximum comfort for a tender point and hold for 90 seconds. Effective for acute pain and spasm.

High-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA). A quick, targeted thrust to restore motion to a restricted joint. I only use this when indicated and always explain first.

Cranial osteopathy. Very gentle work on the cranial bones and sacrum. Effective for headaches, TMJ, and post-concussion symptoms.

Plan. We discuss findings, treatment, and recommendations. I'll be honest about your expected timeline.

After your visit

Mild soreness for 24 to 48 hours is normal. Stay hydrated. Gentle walking or light activity helps your body integrate the changes. Avoid intense exercise the rest of the day. Many patients notice continued improvement for 48 to 72 hours after treatment.

How often should I come in?

Acute problems: weekly for a few weeks. Chronic conditions: start weekly and space out as you improve. Maintenance: every 4 to 8 weeks. We'll build a plan based on how your body responds.
